The Welcome Wagon has arrived!
Greetings GCA members! We are excited to tell you about a new resource serving members of the Gay Coaches Alliance. What might that be? Without further ado, we would like to introduce you to the GCA WELCOME WAGON! What is this new resource? What is its purpose? Please continue reading to learn more.
Over the last few years, gay men from around the world have been joining GCA and our membership numbers have blossomed considerably. As a result, many new members are joining each month. We decided to enhance the process of welcoming new members to the group to make sure that everyone knows about the events and resources within GCA. We hope to ensure that all members experience a sense of connection and support right from the very start. Hence, the GCA Welcome Wagon was created.
For those of you who may not have heard the term, the “Welcome Wagon” is a company established in 1928 by Thomas Briggs to welcome new homeowners. The company originally had “hostesses” who visited homeowners, bringing gift baskets filled with samples, coupons and advertising from local businesses. In 1998, the company eliminated the hostesses and the home visits. However, they do still provide welcome of new neighbors with targeted mailings and telemarketing calls.
GCA decided that we needed our own version of the Welcome Wagon. Your hosts(hostesses?) include Garry Schliefer, Wil Fisher and John O’Brien. Starting in January 2022, new members receive an email from a member of the team. This email outlines resources within GCA, including monthly calls, conference offerings and opportunities for professional networking. New members are invited to reach out to any member of the Welcome Wagon for a personal networking welcome call.
The Welcome Wagon looks forward to continuing its mission of making all GCA members feel welcomed and supported. Do you have any ideas of how we can do this more effectively? Please reach out to any member of the GCA Executive Board or the Welcome Wagon to let us know. If you are a new member of GCA, keep your eyes on your email inbox for your personal welcome!
