Dear GCA Members

Dear GCA Members

At this end-of-the-year time, I’d like to offer my best wishes to you for ending one year and starting another. Over the years,

the Gay Coaches Alliance has steadily grown to seventy-five men, a good number of whom are from other countries, making us a truly international group. Please take a look at the members’ profiles and discover all the various ways our members are using coaching. Here is a special welcome to our newest members:

  • Ira Tau
  • Mark Veary
  • Matt Viviano
  • Matthew Bennett
  • Cator Sparks
  • Daniel Weil
  • David Whittleton
  • Dominic Longo
  • Peter Simmonds

Our mission remains the same: to increase the number of gay men who hire coaches and to grow the number of gay men who become coaches. Living where I do at The Easton Mountain Retreat Center, I often have conversations with middle-age men who are considering a different career path. When I ask them if they’ve every considered becoming coaches, they are usually surprised, as they’ve mostly never given it a thought.

After a conversation, they begin to see how natural a move it would be and how naturally skilled they are at coaching. We at the GCA have the strong viewpoint that most gay men bring a natural ability to this field: we are generally kind, empathetic, and curious. Our strength lies often in the discrimination we faced as young gay men and the strength we gained from it. We have a more than usually deep sense of what people need to be safe and held by a coach.

I’m happy to announce that Damian Goldvarg will be our guest on our call, December 12, 4:00pm-5:30pm. Many of you know him and have met him at our Conference. He’s a very distinguished coach and is a former president of the ICF. Please google him because the list of his accomplishments are too long to list here. He will be discussing the latest revision of the Core Competencies from the ICF. You will be receiving a notice of the call, and if you don’t, please get in touch with Allen Siewert. For the latest news about The International Gay Coaches Conference (April 30-May 3, 2020), please check out the website (gaycoachconference.com). We have 3 members who are planning the event: Chris Cooper, Shane Scott, and Peter Simmonds. Please contact them if you have any interest in doing a presentation or leading a workshop. Newcomers are highly encouraged and the planners offer help in putting a workshop together.

We are nearly ready to open the link to Easton Mountain for registration and there will an attractive discount offered for early registration. Please put the conference on your calendars.

I wish you all a Happy Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.

Yours,
Harry Faddis Board President, GCA
