Converge ICF Global Conference, 2019

Converge ICF Global Conference, 2019

Converge 2019, the ICF Global Conference took place last October 24 to 26, in Prague, Czech Republic. There were 900 attendees from fifty countries. The conference had four tracks: building, practice, science, and discover (future trends)
.
There were 17 exhibitors and my company, the Goldvarg Consulting Group was one of the exhibitors, offering free supervision sessions to participants to develop understanding of what supervision is and how it works.

The opening keynote speaker was Frans Johansso, talking about Navigating Unpredictability. He proposed to use diversity and inclusion to promote creativity in organizations. He invited to ask ourselves: Is the world changing faster than my organization? Do we have the ability to change? How do we prepare in era of rapid change? He suggested that expertise and planning may not be enough for success.

The unexpected that makes us stand apart. How do we set up for success in an uncertain world? He recommended:

  1. Look for opportunities to change the rules of the game.
  2. Draw inspiration from fields and cultures different than your own. All new ideas are combinations of old ideas, but not all combinations are equal: Bring together different perspectives.
  3. Place more bets, take risks.
  4. Rethink the role of experience and expertise in innovation.

His main message was to use diversity to drive innovation. I was disappointed that there was not too much on coaching supervision but Janet Harvey, MCC presented on the importance of being aware of our assumptions and possible inner obstacles to provide the best possible service to our clients.
